Types of Breast Lifts
Breast lift surgery is not one-size-fits-all, and the best options for you will depend on your body proportions, how much sagging needs to be corrected, and what your ultimate goals are. During your consultation, one of our board certified plastic surgeons will recommend one of the following breast lift techniques:
Breast Lift Techniques
Crescent Breast Lift
Usually recommended for those with only minimal sagging, the crescent breast lift requires just one incision that runs halfway along the top outer edge of the areola. This results in a scar that is practically invisible, as it is hidden within the naturally darker pigment of the areola.
Peri-Areolar Breast Lift
Sometimes referred to as a “donut lift,” the peri-areolar breast lift technique is a great option for women with mild sagging who would benefit from subtle lifting. With this technique, your surgeon will make one, circular incision around the entire outer edge of your areola. Again, this technique results in a minimally visible scar.
Vertical Breast Lift
A vertical lift is ideal for women who have moderate breast sagging and require more reshaping of the breast. Two incisions are required for this technique: one circular incision around the outside edge of the areola and another vertical incision made from the bottom of the areola down to the natural breast crease (inframammary fold). The shape of the incisions resemble a lollipop, hence the nickname “lollipop lift.”
Anchor Breast Lift
With incisions placed in the shape of an anchor, this lifting technique is reserved for women who require dramatic reshaping to improve significant sagging. Also known as the “inverted T” lift, this technique requires three incisions:
- One circling the outer edge of the areola, as in the peri-areolar lift.
- One vertically running from the bottom of the areola to the inframammary fold.
- One made horizontally along the natural breast crease.
Determining the Right Breast Lift for You
For any surgical procedure, it’s crucial to work with a qualified surgeon who has experience and expertise in your procedure of interest. The first step in your breast lift journey is to schedule a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon. During this consultation, you will have the opportunity to learn more about your options, ask any questions you may have, and receive expert recommendations from your surgeon.
To decide which breast lift technique will work best for you, your surgeon will evaluate your concerns to determine the severity of your breast sagging. Based on that evaluation and your individual wants and needs, your surgeon will recommend the technique he believes will offer you the best results.
